ABOUT GEORGIA
Imagine stepping into Tbilisi, the beating heart of Georgia, where history whispers through every cobblestone and the air hums with a blend of ancient tales and modern life. Perched at Europe’s doorstep, this city—among the world’s oldest—stretches along the Mtkvari River, its roots sinking back 4,000 years before Christ. Once a bustling hub on the Silk Road, Tbilisi grew up at the crossroads of giants: Persian, Turkish, and Russian empires swirling around it, each leaving a mark while the city stubbornly held onto its soul.
Walk through Tbilisi today, and you’ll feel its pulse—a vibrant mash-up of ethnicities, faiths, and traditions that defy any neat label like “European” or “Asian.” It’s a place that’s both and neither, a intoxicating cocktail of East meets West. Home to over 1.5 million people, it’s Georgia’s biggest city, a cultural and economic engine that’s always shifting, growing, pulling the country forward. Wander the winding streets of old Tbilisi, past weathered caravanserais and hidden courtyards, and you’ll get why Alexandre Dumas called it a “city of legend and romance” with a charm that’s quirky, magnetic, and hard to pin down. For an expat—or anyone, really—it’s the kind of place that grabs you, a shimmering “Pearl of the Caucasus” that feels alive in a way few cities do.
