The Flag

The Georgian flag is also known as a five-cross flag. It’s a white rectangle with a large red cross in the center and four little crosses in the corners. The flag itself symbolizes courage, justice and patriotism. The national day of the Georgian flag is annually celebrated on January 14’th.

The reason why a lot of people associate Georgia with Russia, is that in the 19th century the country was absorbed by the Russian empire. The Georgian people, fighting for independence, achieved their goal during the years 1918-1921. But unfortunately, Georgia was forcibly incorporated into the USSR until its dissolution.

Right now, 20% of Georgia is occupied by Russia. All of the Georgian citizens, despite the ethnic separation, believe in the unity of Georgia and have faith in uniting with their occupied regions - abkhazia and south ossetia.

Despite all these obstacles, Georgia continues improvement in every field and integrates with western institutions.
